Modular Homes and Traditional Construction: Differences

When you are thinking about modular homes in Arlington, there are a few things to consider when deciding on a modular home vs. a traditionally constructed (“stick built”) home. We here at Carbide Construction are partial to modular homes, and here are a few of our reasons.

Modular homes are subject to the local building codes and regulations, just like traditionally constructed homes. Modular homes are also very customizable. In theory, you could customize every single part of the home from the ground up, interior and exterior! Stick built homes are just as customizable, but you would have to hire an architect to design the home and that could drive up the costs.

And, if you think about it, modular homes are also more energy-efficient. This is the end result of having to make the home road-worthy for transport between the factory where it was built and the site where it will sit permanently. Generally, the exterior walls will be heavier too. Traditionally constructed homes are not as efficient, and some builders will cut costs by using cheap materials and supplies.

Just like traditionally built homes, modular homes’ value increases over time too. Once these homes are completed and fully built, it is almost impossible to tell the difference between a modular home and one that was traditionally constructed. However, modular homes can be built in a shorter time frame, taking just weeks instead of months like traditional construction homes. So if you are in a time crunch (or just impatient!), modular homes are probably your best bet. And because they are built in a factory, other delays due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances are avoided too.
